Project 4.9.4 - Integrating ecology, economics and people in forest and landscapes

Project Leaders: Dr Nick Emtage &  Associate Professor John Herbohn, The University of Queensland

Project 4.9.4 will develop an understanding and application of how to integrate complex social, economic and environmental considerations in maintaining and developing sustainable forest landscapes in the Wet Tropics.

Key objectives of this Project are to:

  • Develop tools to assist landholders, managers and researchers in decision making about investments in forest restoration and to help identify the resulting economic, social and environmental benefits;

  • Produce a comprehensive set of profiles (typology) of landholders in relation to Natural Resource Management (NRM) practices on private land in the Wet Tropics region that will facilitate effective design and delivery of NRM and rural development programs by public agencies; and

  • Investigate financial performance, risk profiles, plus the broader social, environmental and economic impacts of revegetation plantings suitable for use in the Wet Tropics.
